NEIU,Greenmaker Supply, and more

- Northeastern Illinois University has used some of its "green fee" on purchasing a battery powered vehicle for its Facility Maintenance Department. It also has increased its orders for more covered bicycle racks around the university. More to come on this great acheivement!

- Greenmaker Supply has a sale going on. This is a great place to shop. They have a lot of eco friendly housing items that if used can improve sustainability.

- The Peggy Notebaert Museum will be hosting a wonderful picnic night on August 7th.

- Recently, the city of Los Angeles has ordered a ban on plastic bags as of 2010. If you are looking to be part of this effort, you can go to Green Kits and order cloth bags. I have been using these bags for over a year now and have estimated a savings of over 150 plastic bags. That is just in one year. You can also go the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce website and check out vendors in the neighborhood who are giving discounts to patrons that use cloth bags. Congrats to them.

- Evanston's Markets have been featured in A Fresh Squeeze. Buying local not only saves CO2 emissions, but keeps $$$$ in the local community. Who doesn't need that in these trying times?

- Wikipower is in a partnership with The Peggy Notebaert Museum and A Fresh Squeeze. The partnership exists to provide funding for the museum's educational programs. For every person that signs up to A Fresh Squeeze's email update list, the blog will donate $0.25 to The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum! You will receive up to date information on environmental issues in the Chicago area and be helping one of Chicago's top environmental resources. So please take a moment to go to my donation page and sign up. The list of donors is growing and money has already been sent to the museum. Thanks everyone!

Greenmaker Building Supply

Hey

Through A Fresh Squeeze email update, I was able to find a local building company named Greenmaker Building Supply that is focused on environmentally friendly materials and building processes. They are located here in Chicago on Pulaski. The fact that they are a local company motivated to bringing their clients the most effective building materials really excites me. I encourage you to check out the web site for their products and services.

As I said before, I found this information through the A Fresh Squeeze web site. I have found the updates very useful. You will want to give it a try.

The city of Chicago is playing with different ideas on how to make the city more green. There was an article in yesterday's Chicago Tribune that describes ways from improving the transportation emissions in both CTA vehicles and taxis, to new recycling programs.

It should be noted though that the city is considering removing plans to improve the blue cart program because of budget concerns. This is alarming and we should not let the city bypass the recycling program just because they can't manage their books.

Let me know of any stories/topics/pics coming up and I will get them on the blog.
